Twenty-Third
Psalm
The Lord is
my shepherd;
I shall not want.
He maketh me to lie down in the green pastures;
He leadeth me beside the still waters.
He restoreth my soul; He leadeth me in the paths of
righteousness for his name's sake.
Yea, though I walk through the valley of the shadow
of death, I will fear no evil;
for Thou art with me; thy rod and thy staff
they comfort me. Thou preparest a table
before me in the presence of mine enemies;
Thou annointest my head with oil, my cup runneth over.
Surely goodness and mercy shall follow me all
the days of my life; and I shall dwell
in the house of the Lord forever.

Footprints
One night
a man had a dream. He dreamed he was walking along the beach with the
Lord. Across the sky flashed scenes from his life. For each scene, he
noticed two sets of footprints in the sand; one belonging to him, and
the other to the Lord. When the last scene flashed before him, he looked
back at the footprints in the sand. He noticed that many times along the
path of his life there was only one set of footprints. He also noticed
that it happened at the very lowest and saddest times in his life. This
really bothered him and he questioned the Lord about it, "Lord, you
said that once I decided to follow you, you'd walk with me all the way.
But I have noticed that during the most troublesome times in my life,
there is only one set of footprints. I don't understand why when I needed
you most you would leave me." The Lord replied, "My son, My
precious child, I love you, and I would never leave you. During your times
of trial and suffering, when you see only one set of footprints, it was
then that I carried you." -- Author unknown

(Ecclesiastes
3:1-8)
There is a
season for
everything, a time for every
occupation under heaven,
A time for
giving birth,
A time for dying,
A time for planting,
A time for uprooting what has been planted.
A time for killing,
A time for healing;
A time for knocking down,
A time for building.
A time for tears,
A time for laughter,
A time for mourning,
A time for dancing.
A time for throwing stones away,
A time for gathering them up;
A time for embracing,
A time to refrain from embracing.
A time for searching, A time for losing;
A time for keeping,
A time for throwing away.
A time for tearing,
A time for sewing;
A time for keeping silent,
A time for speaking,
A time for loving,
A time for hating;
A time for war,
A time for peace.

3:1-8)

(John
14:1-3)
Let not your
hearts be troubled;
believe in God, believe also in me.
In my father's house are many rooms;
if it were not so, would I have told you
that I go to prepare a place for you?
And when I
go and prepare a place
for you, I will come again
and I will take you to myself,
that where I am you may be also.
(JN. 14:1-3)

Child's
Prayer
"Now
I lay me down to sleep;
I pray Thee, Lord, my soul to keep,
If I should die before I wake,
I pray Thee, Lord,
my soul to take."
|

(Serenity
Prayer)
God grant
me the Serenity
to accept the things
I cannot change,
Courage to change
the things I can,
And Wisdom to know
the difference.

"When
I Must Leave You"
When I must
leave you for
a little while
Please do not grieve and
shed wild tears
And hug your sorrow to you
through the years
But start out bravely with
a gallant smile;
And for my
sake and in my
name live on and do all things
the same, Feed not your loneliness
on empty days,
But fill each waking hour
in useful ways,
Reach out your hand in comfort
and in cheer
And I in turn will comfort you
and hold you near;
And never,
never be
afraid to die,
For I am waiting for you in the sky!

Safely
Home
I am home
in heaven, dear ones.
Oh, so happy and so bright!
There is a perfect joy and beauty
In the everlasting light.
All the pain and grief is over,
Every restless tossing passed;
I am now at peace forever.
Safely home in heaven at last.
There is work still waiting for you,
So you must not idly stand,
Do it now, while life remaineth--
You shall rest in God's own land.
When that work is all completed,
He will gently call you Home;
Oh, the rapture of that meeting
Oh, the joy to see you come!

The
Lord's Prayer
Our Father,
who art in heaven,
hallowed be thy name.
Thy kingdom come,
thy will be done on earth
as it is in heaven.
Give us this day our daily bread.
And forgive us our trespasses,
as we forgive those
who trespass against us.
And lead us not into
temptation, but deliver
us from evil, For thine
is the kingdom and thepower,
and the glory, forever.
Amen.

Taps
Day is done,
gone the sun, from the hills, from the sky.
All is well, safely rest, safely rest, all is well.
Fading light dims the sight, and a star gems the sky.
Gleaming bright from afar, drawing nigh, falls the night.
Dear one, rest!
|

Taps
(2nd Version)
Day is done,
gone the sun.
From the lake,
from the hill,
from the sky.
All is well,
safely rest.
God is nigh.
Thanks and praise
for our days.
'neath the sun,
'neath the stars,
'neath the sky.
As we go,
this we know.
God is nigh.

Prayer
of St. Francis of Assisi
Lord, make
me an instrument
of your peace;
Where there is hatred,
let me sow love;
Where there is injury,
pardon;
Where there is doubt,
faith;
Where there is despair,
hope;
Where there is darkness,
light;
And where there is sadness,
joy.
O Divine Master,
Grant that I may not
so much
seek to be consoled
as to console;
To be understood as
to understand;
to be loved, as to love;
For it is in giving that we receive;
It is in pardoning that
we are pardoned;
And it is in dying that
we are born to eternal life.

O
My Father (with Angel Moroni)
O my Father,
thou that dwellest
in the high and glorious place,
When shall I regain thy presence,
and again behold thy face?
In thy holy habitation,
did my spirit once reside?
In my first primeval childhood,
was I nurtured near thy side?
For a wise
and glorious purpose
thou hast placed me here on earth,
And withheld the recollection
of my former friends and birth,
Yet oft-times a secret something whispered,
"you're a stranger here,"
And I felt I had wandered
from a more exalted sphere.
I had learned
to call thee Father,
through thy Spirit from on high;
But until the key of knowledge
was restored, I knew not why.
In the heavens are parents single?
No; the thought makes reason stare!
Truth is reason, truth eternal tell me
I've a mother there.
When I leave
this frail existence,
when I lay thy mortal by,
Father, Mother, may I meet you
in your royal courts on high?
Then, at length, when I've completed
all you sent me forth to do,
With your mutual approbation
let me come and dwell with you.

(Spanish Twenty-Third Psalm)
El Señor is mi pastor; nada me falta en
verdes pastos él me hace reposar y
adonde brota agua fresca me conduce.
Fortalece mi alma,
por el camino del bueno me dirige
por amor de su nombre.
Aunque pase por quebradas muy oscuras
no tengo ningun mal, porque tu estás
conmigo, tu bastón y tu vara me protegen.
Me sirves a la mesa frente a mis
adversarios, con aceites tu perfumas mi
cabeza y rellenas mi copa.
Me acompana tu bondad y tu favor
mientras dura mi vida, mi mansión
sera la casa del Señor por largo,
largo tiempo.

A
Firefighter's Prayer
When I am
called to duty, God,
whenever flames may rage;
give me strength to save some life,
whatever be its age.
Help me embrace a little child
before it is too late;
or save an older person
from the horror of that fate.
I want to fill my calling
and to give the best in me;
to guard my every neighbor
and protect his property.
And if, according to my fate,
I am to lose my life; please bless
with your protecting hand
my children and my wife.

A
Policeman's Prayer
Lord, I ask
for courage:
courage to face and conquer
my own fears; courage to take me
where others will not go.
I ask for strength: strength of
body to protect others; strength
of spirit to lead others.
I ask for dedication: dedication
to my job to do it well;
dedication to my community
to keep it safe.
Give me, Lord, concern:
concern for all those who
entrust me; and compassion
for those who need me;
and please, Lord, through it all
be at my side.
